Arab FC vs Sparta Jag

After the terrific victory in the Caledonian Cup just 6 days previously, Sparta made the trip to Dundee to face a Utd side that they had beaten 14-2 6 weeks before. The squad was missing a few regular faces such as Nicky, Wee Rab and Kenny but the team was by no means under strength. With a few players playing slightly out of position it was interesting to see how the Jags would fare.

Sparta made a bright start with both Sonn and Ryan going close early doors. The two tiny strikers were causing problems in the Utd defence. The passing looked sharp and the boys ready to turn Arab FC over for the second time.

The first goal was not long in coming. After about 20 mins another one of Gurdy's long throws came into the box and Sonn was waiting at the front post to neatly turn the ball past the Arab keeper.

Then Sparta started to back off and Arab FC came back into the game with a few half chances. The Jags made some changes but the score remained at one-nil at half time. Some people feared a repeat of the Aberdeen disaster but after some heated words at half time the Sparta boys knew to keep playing their patient passing game.

As the second half started the Glasgow lads created many chances with good work from T and Andy Mac in midfield. But it wasn't until a long ball was played that Sparta extended their lead.

Captain Stevie Walker played an inch perfect ball over the Dundee Utd defence to the on rushing Sonn who volleyed the ball past the Arab keeper into the top corner. As the striker celebrated his 28th strike of the season the Jags knew victory was safe.

The game died slightly after the 2nd goal and Sparta kept the ball for the remaining 20 minutes without creating much in the way of chances. The good thing from the Jags' point of view was that they didn't concede and never looked like doing so.

Not the best game of football that Sparta Jag will ever play but 3 points nevertheless.
