UCS Bankies vs Sparta Jag
Holyrood Sports Centre, Glasgow
Holyrood was once again the venue for Sparta Jag's 10th league match of the
2002/03 season, with UCS Bankies kindly allowing the game to be played as their
home match.
The game itself started off at quite a turgid pace. It wasn't until midway
through the first half when Sparta took the lead. Stuart Deans played an
excellent through ball to Patrick Kelly, who fired the ball into the top
corner.
Sparta doubled their lead towards the end of the half after good work from
Charles Kirkwood. The keeper came out to block his effort, but the ball fell
to Joseph Condron, who tapped the ball into the empty net.
Sparta would have been three up at the interval had it not been for an
excellent double save by the Bankies keeper, first from Charles Kirkwood, then
the follow up from Peter Condron.
After the break Sparta did get their third goal. Good work from new boy Gavin
Muir set up Marcos Aranda, who finished neatly with his right foot. The
Bankies then took advantage of some paraplegic Sparta defending to pull a goal
back.
The Bankies than had a good spell where they pressurised Sparta, but any hopes
of a revival were ended, whenever Patrick Kelly's deflected effort completed
the scoring.
A below par performance from Sparta, but a win nonetheless. Thanks again to
Stevie and the Bankies for agreeing to play the match as their home game.
