Sparta Jag vs Fir Park Corner
Holyrood Sports Centre, Glasgow
Sparta's first game at the Holyrood Sports Centre attracted a crowd of locals,
who were looking to gorge on the feast of football laid out for them.
The first half was a poor half with little goalmouth action. Sparta were
unlucky not to take the lead when Andy McIntyre leapt like a tuna at the back
post, only to see his header come off the bar.
When Sparta did take the lead, there was a touch of good fortune to it. Paddy
Kelly played a hopeful high ball into the box, and a breakdown in communication
between the FPC defender and goalkeeper let Joe Condron through, and he fired
the ball home.
After the break, Sparta extended their lead through player-manager Charlie
Kirkwood. Rab Stirling was brought down outside the box, and Charlie curled
the ball around the defensive wall and into the net.
Sparta made it 3-0 after a composed finish from Ruairidh Grenfell. Sparta's
fourth was a touch controversial. The ball was played in towards the keeper,
who fumbled under pressure. With the FPC defence appealing to the referee, Rab
Stirling finished.
The final goal from Sparta came after good work from Marcos Aranda. He took
the ball past two defenders before being brought down. The FPC defence
stopped, assuming that a foul would be awarded. However, the referee played
advantage, and Charlie Kirkwood scored his second of the afternoon as a result.
Fir Park Corner's consolation came after a good move on the counter attack.
A good second half performance by Sparta was enough to secure the points.
Thanks to Piglet and the FPC team for making the trip through from
Motherwell.
