Sparta Jag vs St Mirrenoff
Barlia Sports Complex, Glasgow
St. Mirrenoff travelled to Castlemilk for the second league meeting of this
campaign against Sparta Jag.
Sparta started the brighter of the two sides, and found themselves 3-0 up after
less than 20 minutes. The first came from a free kick. Stevie Walker lined the
ball up from about 35 yards out, and his effort deceived the St. Mirrenoff
goalkeeper and ended up in the back of the net.
The second was a well-worked effort. Charlie Kirkwood played the ball out wide
to James Hamilton, who cut the ball back across the area to Paddy Kelly, and he
finished the move with some aplomb.
Sparta's third was fortuitous. A hopeful high ball was played into the box, and
a St. Mirrenoff defender, in attempting to flick the ball back to his keeper,
was unfortunate to put through his own net.
Soon after half time, St. Mirrenoff reduced the deficit. The ball fell to one
of their strikers, who lashed the ball into the top corner from some 25
yards.
Sparta could have restored their 3-goal cushion through Scott Traquair, but his
effort was easily saved. Paddy Kelly also had a good chance, which was well
saved by the keeper.
A solid performance by Sparta, which proved good enough for the three points.
As always thanks to St. Mirrenoff who more than matched Sparta throughout the
game.
