Sparta Jag vs Dynamo Doonhamers
Ibrox Community Complex, Glasgow
This was the first league match for Sparta since the draw with St. Mirrenoff
back in October, and Sparta were hoping to consolidate the solid start they had
to the campaign.
The first half was an entertaining affair as both sides traded goals. Sparta
struck first when Paddy Kelly was sent clear and he calmly slotted home the
opener. Immediately from kick off Dynamo were level. Stevie Walker lost
possession, leaving the Dynamo forward one on one with Nick Sutherland, and he
made no mistake with the finish.
Sparta re-took the lead soon after. Rab Stirling's attempted cross was blocked
by a Dynamo defender's hand inside the area, and the diminutive striker coolly
placed the penalty past the Dynamo keeper.
Sparta's third was a trademark effort, as Stevie Walker's corner was headed
home at the back post by Charlie Kirkwood.
Charlie then turned provider, as it was his pass that sent Rab Stirling clear,
and his strike saw him retake the lead as this season's top goal scorer.
Sparta then seemed to take their foot off the gas, allowing Dynamo to pull the
half time score back to 4-3.
After the restart, it was Sparta who struck first, with two half time subs
linking up well. Marcos Aranda got to the bye-line and his cross was volleyed
home beautifully by Ruairidh Grenfell.
Dynamo then rallied, and were rewarded with two late goals to make the final
score five each.
Many thanks to Scott and the Dynamo team for travelling all the way from
Dumfries. We hope to play the return match soon.
