Albert Morton Winter Sevens
Battery Park, Gourock
Game 1: Internazioswally vs Sparta Jag
Sparta were looking to go one step further than last year, where they were
defeated in the final, and started in fine style when Marcos Aranda gave Sparta
the lead. Marcos was involved again when Sparta doubled the lead. His good work
out wide led to a cutback for Craig McGuire to touch in from close range.
Michael Kelly completed the scoring.
Full time: Internazioswally 0 Sparta Jag 3
Game 2: Sparta Jag vs Compaq
Sparta lined up against a Compaq team looking to avenge last year's semi-final
defeat. Michael Kelly, though, had other ideas when he opened the scoring with
an explosive finish. His second had a touch of good fortune to it, as it took a
deflection past sometime Sparta goalie Jake Hansen.
Full time: Sparta Jag 2 Compaq 0
Game 3: Albert Cellic vs Sparta Jag
An early goal from Stevie Thomas was enough to win this pretty uneventful
encounter. The three points were enough to guarantee Sparta's place in the
semi-finals.
Full time: Albert Cellic 0 Sparta Jag 1
Game 4: MISC vs Sparta Jag
The only two unbeaten teams in section B clashed for the right to qualify as
group winners. Sparta scored the only goal to secure that privilege midway
through the match, when Craig McGuire nodded over the opposing keeper, taking a
sore one in the process.
Full time: MISC 0 Sparta Jag 1
Semi-Final: CSN Dumbarton vs Sparta Jag
The tournament ended in disappointing fashion against Sparta's bogey team.
Stevie Thomas was unlucky not to score in normal time, as his shot clipped the
woodwork. Charlie Kirkwood and Craig McGuire were unsuccessful during the
shootout, while Peter Condron converted his penalty.
Full time: CSN Dumbarton 0 Sparta Jag 0 (2-1 pens)
Squad: Donnelly, Condron P, Sangster, Thomas, Kirkwood, McGuire, Lafferty,
Kelly M, Aranda.
