St Mirrenoff vs Sparta Jag
Linwood Sports Centre

It was a chilly day in Paisley, as Sparta lined up against St Mirrenoff, hoping to continue their good start to the league season.

Sparta took the lead after about twenty minutes, when recent addition to the squad, Michael Kelly, brought the ball down well inside the penalty area, and confidently struck the ball past the Saints keeper.

St Mirrenoff were soon back on level terms, after Sparta failed to clear their lines at a corner, and the ball was headed home at the back post.

Sparta almost regained their advantage immediately from the kick off, but Michael Kelly's touch let him down. He made amends soon after, as he dribbled past the Saints keeper, and his cross-cum-shot was touched home by Charlie Kirkwood, who slid in at the back post. The score remained 2-1 until the interval.

Sparta started the second half brightly, with a couple of fine long range efforts from Paddy Kelly, which were well held by the keeper. Midway through the second half however, St Mirrenoff equalised for the second time, as a fine move cut through the Sparta defence, before the ball was dispatched from close range.

Sparta then had Nicky Sutherland to thank for a string of fine saves to ensure the score remained 2-2. The last chance of the game fell to Sparta's Robin Barker, whose effort forced the keeper into making a fine block.

Overall, a very keenly contested game of football, with honours even being a fair result.
