Albert Morton Youth XI vs Sparta Jag
Battery Park, Gourock
It was another sun-drenched day down at Battery Park as Sparta Jag took on
the Albert Morton youth team after a month out of action.
It wasn't long before Sparta took an early lead, when James Condron timed
his run perfectly to round the advancing Albert Morton keeper and tap into
the empty net.
Soon after, the lead was doubled, with a carbon copy of the first goal.
James Condron was the recipient of another great through ball, and again
showed excellent touch and composure in rounding the keeper, and stroking
the ball home.
Sparta could have gone even further ahead after good work from Stephen
Burns, but his effort rebounded off the underside of the bar, and was cleared
off the line.
In the second half, Albert Morton's pace and fitness shone through, and they
were rewarded when they pulled a goal back. A corner was poorly dealt with,
allowing one of their players to head home, injuring himself in the process.
There was a spell after this where the game was bogged down with a series of
niggling fouls. During this period, Albert Morton were awarded a soft
penalty. Gary Sangster chested the ball out for a corner, but the referee
somehow awarded a penalty for handball. Justice was done however when Nicky
Sutherland saved the resultant penalty.
A special mention to the Albert Morton youngsters. If they show the same
ability as they did during this match, they will be a force to be reckoned
with in years to come.
